1. Burger King’s Moldy Whopper Campaign

In March 2020, the famous American fast-food restaurant Burger King, shocked its audience with a time-lapse video of a Whopper. In the video, the restaurant’s famous signature sandwich decomposes over 34 days. The Objective here was to spread awareness of its initiative to remove artificial preservatives from all of its food products by the end of the year.


This clever move by the brand got them over 2 million views on YouTube, an array of mentions from fans, and over 21 million impressions on its hashtag.


2. Zoom’s Virtual Background Competition

The video conferencing tool Zoom inaugurated a monthly virtual background contest where remote workers can share their pictures or videos using the tool’s virtual background feature. This will be a recurring competition and each month three entries will be awarded exclusive prizes.


Over 50,000 people signed up for the free trial to simply enter the competition.


3. Hershey’s India #ThatsWhatWeSaid

For Valentine’s Day, Hershey’s India started an Instagram quiz where couples ask each other 9 fun questions to discover something new and interesting about their relationship.


The game was played by them on the brand’s Instagram page using the “Pull and Zoom” feature.


#ThatsWhatWeSaid got over 17 million impressions, with a reach of 12.9 million on Instagram alone. Their overall engagement boosted with over 50,000+ profile visits.


4. Netflix Stay at Home Spoilers Campaign


To support the ‘stay at home’ movement of aiming to reduce the spread of COVID-19, students from Miami Ad School in Hamburg, Germany, wanted to encourage people to stay home by placing billboards around cities with spoilers for popular trending Netflix shows, including Love Is Blind, Stranger Things, Narcos and Kingdom, to name just a few.


While these spoilers were an excellent and creative way to ease the transmission of COVID-19 and helped to promote the ‘stay at home’ message, with an excellent response.



4. Gillette’s #MeToo Movement Activism Campaign


In January, Gillette updated their 30-year-old slogan “the best a man can get” to “the best men can be” for their latest advertising campaign. For the campaign, Gillette created a short film that addresses the #MeToo movement and the problems in society it highlights, such as sexual harassment, bullying, and toxic masculinity.


This ad doesn’t simply capitalize on the attention surrounding the #MeToo movement, but also highlights Gillette’s commitment to the cause.


In just a week after launching the video, Gillette had garnered over 1.5 million social media mentions, compared to just 10,000 the week before.


5. Facebook’s First-ever Super Bowl Commercial


For the first time ever, Facebook aired a commercial during the Super Bowl. The 60-second ad aired during the fourth quarter and promoted Facebook Groups. The ad, called “Ready to Rock?” featured celebrity appearances from actor Sylvester Stallone and comedian Chris Rock, as well as highlighting several “rock” themed Facebook Groups, including Table Rock Lake, Moab Rock Climbers, Rock Buggies, and Rocky Balboa Going the Distance.


The quirky commercial drew a lot of praise for its fun play on words and including real people who are members of the featured Facebook Groups.
